The Ministry of the Interior, from which the minister has resigned, also indicated that more than 10,000 security officers would be mobilized to ensure the safety of the event.
Enhanced Security for the Paralympic Games
The authorities are establishing a reinforced security system to ensure the safety of the Paralympic Games, which will take place from August 28 to September 8. The resigning Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, announced the mobilization of 25,000 law enforcement members in Île-de-France for this event. In comparison, 45,000 police officers and gendarmes were deployed during the Olympic Games, which were held without major incident.
A Comprehensive Security System
Although Gérald Darmanin is not aware of specific threats targeting the Paralympic Games, he has planned support from the three intervention forces, with 300 personnel from the BRI, Raid, and GIGN. Additionally, 10,000 security officers will complement the system put in place to guarantee the safety of the event. The security of sensitive delegations, including that of Israel, will be ensured in the same manner as during the Olympic Games, with 24/7 protection by the Ministry of the Interior’s services.
Flame Route and Ceremony Security
Before the start of the competitions, the Paralympic flame will travel through 33 departments, according to Gérald Darmanin’s statements. He also mentioned that 12 processions will be secured across the territory, without revealing the complete route to avoid disclosing the surprises planned by the Organizing Committee. Law enforcement will also ensure the security of the opening and closing ceremonies of the event.
